Blends for Virgo and Spring using Clary Sage, Labdanum and Lavender

Aug262024

Spring is nearly here down under, and so far it's been gorgeous with my garden full of freesias and rose geranium.

Here are some recipes to stimulate your senses.  Below you will find some blends that you can add to your bathing routine, body care products or diffuser, as well as my favourite, the sniffy stick.

I love Sniffy Sticks as they are easy to carry around in your bag, and your kids can take them to school or carry them in their pocket because they're not glass like a rollon.

If you're experiencing thinning hair or hair loss, here's my recipe from my Haircare Range to help stimulate your scalp

Thinning / Hair Loss Synergy
4 drops Clary Sage essential oil
4 drops Spike Lavender essential oil
2 drops Ginger essential oil
2 drops Sweet Marjoram essential oil

Blend and add to 60ml of your chosen carrier, whether it's a shampoo or conditioner base or jojoba oil to use as a hot oil treatment.

Here's an eczema blend I created many years ago for one of my boyfriends!  I made it to blend in with his favourtie aftershave.  It also includes Lavender.

Brad's Eczema Lotion, 200ml
29 drops Lavender High Alpine essential oil
29 drops Palmarosa essential oil
21 drops Labdanum essential oil
21 drops Manuka essential oil
13 drops Carrot Seed essential oil
13 drops Chamomile German essential oil
9 drops Myrrh essential oil
10gm Emulsifying Wax (Megasperse)
5gm Shea butter
10ml Apricot Kernel oil
10ml Jojoba oil
150ml Lavender Water
5ml Vegetable Glycerine
1 x 200ml bottle

1. Blend your essential oils in a separate bottle.
2. Create your lotion as per my lotion instructions here
3. Add your essential oil blend and fold in
4. Add to your sterilised bottle and cap.

Here's a lovely recipe for your diffuser for Spring.  Great for those rainy days.

Simply Spring Diffuser Blend
6 drops Lemon essential oil
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Bergamot essential oil

Blend the essential oils together into a dripper bottle or vial.
Add 1-2 drops to your diffuser to freshen your space.

You could also use this as a roller blend blended with Jojoba oil.

This is a soothing blend for insomnia created for a client whilst they were going through perimenopause / menopause.  Lemon helps to clear the mind of thoughts crowding in.

Insomnia Blend
5 drops Lemon essential oil
4 drops Clary Sage essential oil
3 drops Marjoram essential oil

Blend in a bottle and add 2 drops to your diffuser in your bedroom, or add 1 drop to a tissue and have it by your pillow that you can sniff as required.

Looking at this list we can work with the following essential oils

Top notes are Cloves, Black Pepper, Coriander, West Indian Bay, Jasmine, Mandarin, Orange, Grapefruit and Bergamot;

Middle notes are Carnation, Cinnamon, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Rose Bulgarian, Tuberose;

Base notes are Myrrh, Sandalwood, Tolu Balsam, Myrrh, Benzoin, Labdanum, Vanilla, Oak Moss, Cedar, and Vetiver.

When I blend, I tend to blend from the base note group first, starting with 1 drop of each, then the middle notes, again 1 drop of each and onto the top notes, again 1 drop of each.  And then the fun begins, adding a drop at a time (and keeping a record) of what I add as I go.

If the list looks overwhelming, play with the oils that you have in each group and see waht you come up with.  Please share in our Facebook Group as I love seeing your creations.

As we head into Spring we start getting more active, and for some that can trigger Athlete's Foot, so here's my Fungal Foot Wash recipe I make up for clients as required and take on my hiking travels when sharing shower facilities and use as a preventative.

Fungal Foot Wash, 50ml
10 drops Lavender essential oil
6 drops Patchouli essential oil
5 drops Myrrh essential oil.
15 drops Manuka essential oil
15 drops Kanuka essential oil
50ml Cider Vinegar

Blend in a bottle and apply to your feet or nails with a either a dropper cap or spray cap.

You can also replace the Manuka and Kanuka with Tea Tree.

If you experience PMT, this is a lovely little blend to carry around in your handbag that you can whip out as your need it.

PMT Roller Blend, 10ml
4 drops Clary Sage essential oil
3 drops Geranium essential oil
2 drops Ylang Ylang essential oil
9.5ml Jojoba or Meadowfoam Seed oil
1 Rollerball bottle

Add your vegetable oil to your bottle, add your essential oils, press in your rollerball cap, place your overcap, tighten and shake to blend.
Apply to your wrist or pulse points as required.

Alternatively, add the essential oils to a sniffy stick that you can inhale as required.

So what do I love about Labdanum?  It's warm, balsamic, earthy, sweet and yet animalistic... and is a great base for blends for those with chronic skin disorders

Aftershave Blend
3 drops Labdanum essential oil
6 drops Lavender essential oil
5 drops Palmarosa essential oil
1 drop Helichrysum essential oil
1 drop Rose Bulgarian essential oil

Add to 50ml of Amor Perfume Base, Lotion Base or a vegetable oil blend of your choice for a facial massage oil.

Note: For the Perfume Base, leave to infuse for 2 weeks before using.

Here's a simple blend for sensitive skin, and if it's in an oil base, it will help protect your face out in the elements too.

Sensitive Skin Blend
2 drops Lavender True essential oil
4 drops Ho Wood essential oil
4 drops Palmarosa essential oil
15ml Grapeseed oil
10ml Calendula infused oil

Blend and add to a Serum pump bottle. Apply morning and evening as requried.

* Lime- if using in the morning, use the Distilled Lime essential oil to prevent sun damage to your exposed skin.

If you have any queries with blending, hop on over to @Amor and post them there and I'll answer it as soon as I'm available.
