How to Create a Mouthwash
Oral health is a bit of a minefield and bad breath can be triggered by any of the following... what you've eaten, gut health, respiratory health, asthma, and sinus infections. So if someone close to you has a halitosis issue that is getting up your nose, here is an easy mouthwash recipe to create for them.... although I would be careful about how you suggest they use it if you don't want to wear it as your new body splash!
Some of my favourite essential oils to use are:
Clove (analgesic, antiseptic, breath freshening),
Kanuka & Manuka (antibacterial, antifungal),
Lemon (stimulates the immune system, flavour),
Myrrh (gum disease),
Peppermint & Spearmint (flavour).
Aniseed, Lemongrass, Lime and Sweet Orange are also used for flavour.
You will need:
100ml bottle, glass or hdpe plastic
90ml distilled or purified water
10ml vegetable glycerine (to help emulsify the essential oils and a natural sweetener)
up to 10 drops of your essential oil selection
and a label.
Add ingredients to your bottle, shake well.
Shake well before use each time. You don't need much to make it work!
If you don't feel safe using essential oils, Myrrh Tincture is a great alternative.
Swallowing essential oils is hazardous for your health, so make sure you do not ingest the oils whilst rinsing out your mouth!
If bad breath is lasting more than 3 weeks, a visit first to the dentist, and if that doesn't resolve it, to the GP is required as there could be something serious going on the gut like Helicobacter pylori which will need some serious doses of antibiotics to get it under control to prevent a stomach ulcer from occuring.
