Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide produced from the bacteria Xathomonas campestris being fermented with corn sugar and is used for thickening, emulsifying oil-in-water formulations and as a gelling agent.
More commonly used in gluten-free cooking, it can also be used in thickening your shower gels and shampoos. Xanthum Gum is heavier than Guar Gum so you have to be careful your recipe doesn't end up with a snot-like texture. This product is easy to use if you add it to your water stage before adding any other ingredients, as it bonds well with essential and fragrant oils, colours and base materials used in skin and hair care. It is also stable over a wide range of pH levels. Use at 0.1-2% in your formulations, depending on the consistency you desire. You may want to use a stick blender at this stage to make sure it is well blended.
Safe for use on lips, eyes, face, nails.
