Sericite (latin for silken) is a pure mica powder that creates a soft silky effect and is used instead of talc in cosmetics as it doesn't fill in finelines and wrinkles, which is not an issue for younger skins, however is definitely noticeable as we get older.

As an added bonus, this one is coated with Carnauba Wax.  Why? 4 reasons -

  1. to make it more effective in pressed cosmetics
  2. colour stable helping to prevent striations in your finished product
  3. has hypo-allergenic poperties
  4. and works very welll with darker skn tones (some of the powders can make darker skin look washed out or as if they're sick, which usually is the opposite effect of what you want when you wear makeup... unless it's Halloween!

Like uncoated Sericite, this lovely carnuba coated powder is considered to be in the range of matte micas as it doesn't glitter, however it does have a soft sheen to it. It is a functional filler with excellent light-diffusing, anti-caking properties. The mica platelets are not coated .

It is a great choice for cosmetic powder bases, with its reduced pearlescence - I like it to use it as a highlighter when my skin is having an "off day" and needs a lift that looks like a natural glow.  It is ideal for foundation products because it promotes a natural-looking complexion, and it makes a lovely natural blush if you want a quick glow on the run.

Benefits

  • Great light diffusion, especially for older skins and darker skin tones
  • Highly recommended for pressed formulations
  • Effective filler and texturiser
  • Easy application to support the natural complexion
  • Perfect for pastel shades with reduced shine
  • Anti-caking and minimises clumping, making it a better option than talc, cornflour and arrowroot.
  • Can be added to lotions as a filler (10 - 40%)
  • If a lotion is too greasy, adding sericite mica will help reduce the greasy feel (1 - 6%)

This can be used as a main ingredient in your pressed powder bases.

This is lovely in all your cosmetic products, whether they are pressed makeup powders, lipsticks, eye cosmetics, creams, lotions, or nail polishes. I would consider it a must have if you are creating your own pressed cosmetics.
