How to Create Body Powders

Mar082021

Sometimes we don't want a wet deodorant - we want a luxe body powder that we can puff on ourselves!

I have to admit, my memories of body powder as a child were mixed... there was the baby powder incident where I emptied a whole container in my room during a 2 yr old tantrum.... We had visitors and I was bored so I went for a walk to see the cows, the farmer found me in his paddock and I knew my address (because I was clever like that) and he brought me home.  Only catch was that I had to cross the Auckland Southern Motorway to get to said cows.  Admittedly, this was 1968 so it's not like the motorway was busy... but still... I was put into my room for timeout and when I smell Johnson's Baby Powder I see black and white cows... until I met my husband and he uses the awful stuff every day.

My happy powder memories are of me sitting on my Nana's lap with a towel wrapped around me after just being lifted out of my bath and her dusting me with rose-scented powder with a big pouffy duster... now those are far more pleasant memories!

Body Powder

For the base you can use cornflour, kaolin or talc.  Talc bottles here in NZ tend to be 50gm or 100gm.

To a 50gm bottle add 50gm of your preferred base and 30 drops of your favourite blend.  To prevent it clumping, add a couple of drops at a time and shake well, or you can add your oils with an atomiser spray, but that's more pfaffing about in my opinion.
