How to Create a Coffee Body Scrub

Sep012007

One way to keep our skin healthy is to exfoliate it, and there are several options available as to what to use to create a scrub, including coffee!

Now the cool part about coffee scrubs is that it doesn't have to be made from fresh grains of coffee, you can recycle the coffee from your plunger, fiter, espresso - you get the picture!

Definitely apply this in your bath or shower, and be prepared for it to get messy, and have some sugar soap handy to clean your bath/shower afterwards ;-)

Coffee Body Scrub - Makes 1 x 250g pot or 2 x 100g (120ml) pots or 4 x 50g pots
(This is too harsh for the face)

You will need:

10g Ground Coffee

100g Sugar (white or raw)

100g Epsom Salts

50ml Vegetable Oil (Apricot, Grapeseed, Olive, Rice Bran, Sesame, Sunflower, Sweet Almond, etc)

10 drops Vanilla Essential Oil (or Vanilla Essence)

10 drops Sweet Orange Essential Oil (optional)

2 drops Benzoin Essential Oil (optional)

Cosmetic pots as per size options above.

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl mix the oils into the Coffee, Sugar and Epsom Salts.
  2. Take a handful of the scrub mixture at a time and gently scrub down your entire body in your bath or shower.
  3. Rinse off.
  4. Massage your entire body with a body oil, lotion, or butter blended with your favorite essential oil combination and allow the oil to absorb into your skin. Do not use more than once a week as the salt can be very drying on your skin.

Cost: Between $3-$5 depending on your coffee, sugar and pots..
