Natural Therapies - Ageing Gracefully with Optimal Health
I went to another great practitioner seminar this week (March 2020) about Extending the Healthspan — transforming pain, fatigue and cognitive decline into healthy ageing as we’re all starting to live longer than previous generations, predominantly based on research from 2017-2020 —yes, some people have published their findings this year already in regards to Biological Age vs Chronological Age and Epigenetics!
The upshot of it all is that we do need to look after ourselves by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, look after our mitochondria (the powerhouse of our cells which I learnt a lot about way back in 1998), magnesium deficiency and its impact on telomeres and DNA, pH levels and their association with pain and inflammation, latent acidosis, kidney health, the effects of too much protein on our molecular health, the traditional Mediterranean diet, the traditional Okinawan diet, and finally, nutrient intake studies of specific diets comparing plant-based and meat-eating and their macro nutrient deficiencies.
In the Summer issue I talked about intermittent fasting, and we touched on it again, along with the reiteration that as we age our needs change.
Interestingly, my Advanced Clinical Nutrition Certificate I’m currently studying is only looking at what we eat and how we eat it in relation to our day to day performance, so I'm looking forward to my case studies where I can marry the 2 themes together.
I have in front of me a book with over 80 clinical references, along with another 30 for my Keto and LCHF paper, so if there’s a specific area you are interested in, let me know and I can send you some references.
Alternatively, if you’re sitting there freaking out about where to start to improve your lifestyle, book an appointment with me so you can have your personalised plan created for you.
Don’t panic that you’re not in Auckland or can’t get to me, I also consult via Zoom so can see you anywhere in the world!
