How does Aromatherapy work?
As a liquid the essential oil is absorbed through your skin (via a carrier oil) into the blood stream into your organs and tissues and then excreted via the skin, kidneys and/or lungs.
As a vapour the essential oil is absorbed via inhalation into the lungs and nose. A trace amount reaches your blood stream to your organs and tissues and then excreted via the skin, kidneys and/or lungs. The main method of absorption via the nose is via the olfactory nerves and olfactory bulb to the limbic structure. From there it affects your hormones via the hypothalamus and pituitary gland and your memory/learning/emotions via your cerebral cortex.
