Welcome to Amor Aromatherapy

Hi, I'm Tania Cottew, the Director/Owner/Operator of Amor Aromatherapy Ltd.

I established Amor Aromatherapy in 1994 and incorporated the business in 1998, driven by a passion for creating genuinely therapeutic aromatherapy products at a time when many products marketed as "natural" contained synthetic fragrances and unnecessary chemical additives.

Since then, Amor has evolved from a small aromatherapy practice into a specialist supplier of aromatherapy products, cosmetic ingredients, packaging, natural health resources and, in the future, professional education through the Amor Aromatherapy Academy.

My goal has always been simple:

To help people make informed choices about their health, wellbeing, and the products they use every day.

How My Journey Began

My introduction to aromatherapy began in 1987 through massage training with the Auckland College of Massage. Fascinated by the therapeutic potential of essential oils, I immersed myself in study and eventually completed my NZQA Diploma of Aromatherapy in 1998.

Like many people who enter holistic health professions, my professional interests were shaped by personal experience.

As a mother navigating fertility challenges, childhood allergies, asthma, food intolerances, ADHD and other health concerns within my own family, I began exploring how aromatherapy, nutrition, herbs and lifestyle could support overall wellbeing.

What began as creating blends for family and friends gradually grew into Amor Aromatherapy and some of our earliest product ranges, including Babycare, Childcare and Mothercare formulations.

Life Lessons & Resilience

In 2006, a serious accident resulting in multiple fractures and a mild traumatic brain injury dramatically changed the direction of both my life and my business.

The recovery process challenged me physically, cognitively and emotionally, but it also led to new opportunities and new areas of learning.
As a result, Amor expanded further into cosmetic ingredients, raw materials and packaging supplies, allowing me to continue working while adapting to new limitations.

That experience reinforced a philosophy I still hold today:

Beyond Aromatherapy

Many people are surprised to learn that I have spent much of my career working in the construction industry.

My professional qualifications also include:

• Construction Management
• Construction Planning
• Salutogenic Design

Today I work as a Principal Construction Programmer while continuing to support Amor Aromatherapy behind the scenes.

These seemingly different worlds have much in common. Both require analytical thinking, problem solving and a passion for helping people achieve positive outcomes.

Continuing the Journey

Learning has always been one of my greatest joys, and I'm still just as much of a student as I am a practitioner. After nearly four decades in this field, I remain as curious today as I was when I picked up my first aromatherapy book in 1987.

In recent years my studies have explored a wide range of topics, including histamine intolerance, osteoporosis, adult education and training, advanced aromatherapy, chronic inflammation, and the relationship between health, lifestyle and wellbeing

Alongside these more scientific areas of study, I have also enjoyed exploring the connection between aromatherapy and the chakra system, guided meditation with essential oils, women's wisdom traditions, archetypal studies, the symbolism of the Archangels and planetary influences, and the rich folklore associated with the Fae and the natural world.

Some people may see these as very different worlds, but to me they are simply different ways of understanding ourselves, our health, our purpose, and our connection to the world around us.

The more I learn, the more I realise how much there is still to discover.

As Amor continues to evolve, so too does my own journey. My goal is to create a space where science, tradition, intuition, creativity, and practical experience can sit comfortably alongside one another, allowing people to explore health and wellbeing in a way that resonates with them.

Today, Amor Aromatherapy combines over 30 years of experience in aromatherapy, natural health, formulation, and education.
