“Wellbeing is the culmination of our daily choices. By choosing our food, lifestyle & taking supplements with wellbeing in mind, we do more than move towards health, it’s a way in which we nurture & value ourselves.” –Vanessa Hitch Bsc(CompMed), ND.
5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is a precursor to an important brain chemical called serotonin. Serotonin is one of the major neurotransmitters in the body and is responsible for producing, among other things, a feeling of calm, well-being and mood elevation. It also plays a role in sleep, pain thresholds, blood flow, hunger/satiety, and libido. Inadequate levels have been associated with depression, anxiety, and possibly obsessive-compulsive disorders.
The amino acid tryptophan (present in protein foods) plays a role in a number of biochemical reactions in the body. Some tryptophan becomes protein, some is converted into niacin (vitamin B3) and some enters the brain to become the neurotransmitter serotonin.
Therapeutic use of 5-HTP bypasses the conversion of tryptophan into 5-HTP, by the enzyme called tryptophan hydroxylase. This enzyme is one rate-limiting step in the synthesis of serotonin and it is inhibited by stress.
Designed by Vanessa Hitch, this product provides support for the bodys natural serotonin production with 5HTP and co-factors for the serotonin pathway.

I also like using this one when I'm unable to focus due to my ADD, and it was great when I was recovering from my brain injury, helping my cognitive and behavioural pathways come back to some form of my normality... 'sos everyone is different ;-)
