Red oxide is a shade of brown oxide (an Iron (III) oxide (Fe2O3)) and occurs naturally in the mineral hematite. It comes in several shades of brown and red oxides.
It comes in 7 different shades and they do affect your finished product, and to make life more confusing, they all have the same CI number being 77491.
This is one of the red oxides that is in my CIY Cosmetic Kits, and if you have purchased from my old website and it is the right tone for you, this is the one you want - originally known as Red Oxide way back in 2009 when I first started creating cosmetic pigments.
Iron Oxides are generally naturally occurring non-toxic inorganic mineral pigments sourced from iron and are considered safe for use in colouring products, including cosmetics and personal care products applied to the face, lips, and the area of the eye, provided they meet certain specifications.
Iron Oxides are a colour additive exempt from FDA certification.
