This soothing balm for your baby is ideal for Nappy RashEczema, Dermatitis and Thrush

and I can make it up as a cream base if you're concerned about a possible bee allergy.

Created with the following clinical grade essentials oils that are safe your bubba

  • Chamomile German - as one of the most gentlest essential oils around, it is safe for infants. It is effective against Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans which really does it make it ideal for this balm, however that clinical evidence didn't exist when I first created this in 1994 for my son. I used it due to its history of use on open weeping skin associated with a rash.
  • Chamomile Roman - has the ability to accelerate healing time, which is important when you're dealing with tender skin, nappies, and itchy skin... the one advantage of babies is that there peripheral nervous system isn't developed enough to be irritated by what would drive us mad with scratching. It's gently sedating as well as having the ability to reduce anxiety, so that helps the baby and the person who is applying the balm, because let's face it, raw skin and rashes are not a pleasant experience to deal with and can be a very distressing process.
  • Alpine Lavender aka Mont Blanc - I'm not a big lavender fan, however this is one of those really important times where it is needed for what it was originally intended for - to relieve pain, soothe and heal. With its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and tissue regenerating properties, Lavender is the perfect partner for the Chamomiles and Babies.
  • Amor beeswax balm base - to soothe and moisturise baby's sensitive skin, and is an alternative to Vaseline as a barrier to protect the skin from urine and the burning due to pH differences between urine and skin.

How to use:

Gently soften the balm with the heat of your hands - if your hands are really warm, it may turn to a thick oil.

For mild nappy rash - apply directly to the skin after cleansing when changing nappies.

For severe nappy rash (weeping open skin, typically aggravated by the urine pH) - apply the balm to pieces of gauze and place the gauze on baby's skin, then put the nappy on. You can also use this method with Curash baby powder, by sprinkling the baby powder on over the gauze if you have a wide area to cover.

Balm comes packaged in a frosted glass pot with a black lid,
50gm and 100gm Cream comes packaged in an airless tube with pump to increase shelf life.

This is the balm that was the real beginning of Amor Aromatherapy.

Kyle developed "nappy rash" when he was around 3 weeks old, and it quickly went from being a mild rash to his skin being raw.

With every nappy he would cry, I would remove his nappy to find it was practically dry and little blisters were appearing on his skin.

We went down the traditional route of Vaseline (which made it worse and the skin started peeling from his bottom and my hands), to zinc and castor oil cream with no changes. The local Glenfield Mall Pharmacist even made him up an ointment with no change, and it was he who recommended that I make him up a natural balm using beeswax as the base. By this time Kyle was 6 months old and his skin was a mess and the skin damage was halfway up his torso and down his legs.

So I went to the Honey place in Okura, bought my first ever lot of beeswax, got out my aromatherapy books and looked up the essential oils that I could use for a baby, and this cream was born. The hardest part was sourcing the oils as we didn't have Google back then. My only regret is that I never took photos to record the process of how bad it was and how quickly his skin healed over the following 4-6 weeks... even our Plunket Nurse was impressed.
