| Description: |
There are a number of different Cedarwood oils that are recognised within the essential oil industry. There are two major differences between these oils, that being the family they originate from and the geographical location. The oils are generally distinguished by their geographical location. Cedarwood Virginian belongs to the Cupressaceae family, high in cedrol, cedrene and thujopsene. It is produced from the wood of the Southern Red Cedar, which is a slow-growing, coniferous evergreen, reaching heights of 33 metres or so, the diameter of the trunks can reach over 1.5 metres. It has a reddish heartwood and bears brown cones. |

Cedarwood Virginian calms nervous tension and states of anxiety, and is used for concentration and clarity.
Virginian cedarwood is an expectorant and will act as a mild astringent, as well as helping to relieve muscle and joint pain.
It is also useful for deterring moths and other insects.

Native American tribes have historically used poles of of this lovely cedarwood to demarcate agreed tribal hunting territories, and the smoke of burning Virginian Cedarwood is believed to expel evil spirits prior to conducting a ceremony, such as a healing ceremony. Some nations continue to use it ceremoniously.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana, which denotes "red stick", was named from the reddish colour of these poles.
